Jesus Saves Sinners
Man’s Greatest Need is Salvation.
If you have come here looking for answers about salvation you are in the right place. God gave us the Bible because He loves us and wants us to understand how to be saved.
As we look at what God tells us in His Word, let’s consider how it applies to us personally. Don’t let pride creep in but approach every verse with humility knowing that God truly loves you and desires a genuine relationship with you.
Listen to what Jesus said in John 3:16:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
This verse teaches some wonderful truths:
FIRST:
This verse teaches that God loves us. This includes you and me!
SECOND:
This verse tells us why Jesus Christ was born and why He gave His life on the cross. The reason was to make eternal life available to all of us.
THIRD:
This verse tells us that eternal life is a personal choice as implied in the word “whosoever” and requires a personal belief in what God has provided for us through His Son Jesus Christ.
What Jesus says next in John 3:17 is also amazing:
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
This verse teaches us our need to be saved and it shows us that salvation is through the Lord Jesus Christ.
It also shows us the love, grace, and mercy of God towards us in that He doesn’t come to condemn us but show us how to be saved and have a relationship with Him.
Jesus was born into the world because you and I are sinners and in need of a Savior.
One of the stories surrounding the birth of Jesus was an announcement made by an angel to a group of men who were Shepards and who were watching their sheep near Bethlehem the place and night of Jesus’ birth. This message shows why Jesus came.
Luke 2:11 says:
“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.”
There is a reason why the word SAVIOUR is used and that reason is given several times in scripture. One of those verses is Romans 5:8, which says:
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
The reason we need a Saviour is because you and I are sinners. This is where humility comes in because we need to see this truth about ourselves and most people don’t want to admit it.
Romans 3:23 says:
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
Each of us are born sinners. This is our nature. The other problem we have being sinners is wanting to fix it ourselves thinking we can or that we know better than God. We try to clean up our lives or start doing things we think will put us in a better position with Him. We think if we do enough good that it will outweigh our bad or if we give enough it will somehow earn us a spot in heaven or gain God’s favor.
None of this will work.
Romans 3:10 tells us:
“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one…”
Now listen to what God did for us through His Son Jesus Christ if we would simply trust Him and accept what He did for us on the cross.
Ephesians 2:8-9 says:
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.”
What an amazing verse that teaches so many wonderful truths about salvation.
FIRST: Salvation is available to us because of God’s grace. Grace means “God’s undeserved and unearned favor.” This is why salvation is a free gift to mankind. God paid the price by allowing Christ to take our place when He gave His life on the cross. A gift is something that is simply received and cannot be earned in any way.
SECOND: The means of salvation is by faith and not works of any kind on our part. Faith means a belief in and the acceptance of what Christ did for us.
Christ paid the price for our salvation and our sin by giving His life on the cross on our behalf.
1 John 3:16 says:
“Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us.”
Romans 1:16 says:
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth.”
Religion, being religious, or doing religious things will not save us.
Trying to change our life and do better ourselves will not save us.
Hoping our good deeds will outweigh our bad deeds will not save us.
How can a person receive salvation if they can’t do anything about it themselves?
You are probably asking the same question a jailer was asking when he was guarding the Apostle Paul while he was in prison. That question was, “What must I do to be saved?” (Acts 16:30). The answer wasn’t to clean up one’s life, join a church, become religious or give something. The answer was to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. The word believe here is the same thing as exercising faith. It means to believe and accept something as being the truth.
Exercising faith is believing and accepting the fact that we are sinners according to God’s Word.
Exercising faith is believing and accepting the fact that we need a Savior and cannot earn salvation or go to heaven based on anything we can do in and of ourselves.
Exercising faith is believing and accepting the fact that we need that same Jesus as OUR LORD and SAVIOR.
Exercising faith is believing and accepting the fact that Jesus Christ is that Savior. He did it all! What He did on the cross through His death and His resurrection three days later paid the price for our sin and provided the gift of eternal life.
Another word used in the scriptures for “paying the price” is the word REDEMPTION.
Ephesians 1:8 says:
“In whom (referring to Jesus Christ) we have redemption through his blood the forgiveness of sin.”
How do we receive this forgivenes?
We accept and admit the fact that we are indeed a sinner in need of Jesus Christ and we ASK HIM (by faith) to save us.
Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
My question for you is this:
Have you ever called out or prayed (asked for) the Lord’s forgiveness for being a sinner and asked Him for the gift of salvation?
If you haven’t I encourage you to think about what Jesus Christ did for you, acknowledge what the Bible says about our sin, and ask God to save you. I encourage you to receive by faith the wonderful gift of salvation.
When the jailer asked, ““What must I do to be saved?”, the answer he received was, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved…” Acts 16:31
This is exactly what I did when I got saved. In prayer and by faith (believing God’s Word), I asked God to forgive me and to save me. In that moment He did and I am forever grateful. It was life changing.
I am so thankful for God’s Word because it gives assurance about the most important decision a person could ever make in their life.
1 John 5:13 says, “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”
If you have made the decision to receive God’s gift of salvation or have any questions I’d love to hear from you. Send me a message by email letting me know. I’d love to prayer for you and send you some information that will help you as a new believer. [Lamar Powell]
